The logo: explained
Spring Street Studios was founded in 2021 by Renee Ayers and Elizabeth Fortunato in Zelienople Pa. We remain a woman owned and operated business.
In planning the business, Renee and a designer friend worked up the perfect logo. The flame that makes up the S not only stands for the three S’s in Spring Street Studios, but also represents the methods of working with glass. The S is comprised of blue, orange and Red. The Red represents the heat of working with glass. We do not have a hot blowing studio, but we represent many local artist who work with glass in its hottest form, blowing and sculpting molten glass.
The Orange stripe or S represents working with glass in its “warm” state, or Kiln Forming. Kiln forming is something we do a lot of at Spring Street Studios. We have two kilns. One large kiln where we produce art work, cast glass, and fuse student work from our many workshops. Our kilns can reach over 2000 degrees Fahrenheit, but we usually fire between 1250 and 1500 degrees, or “warm” temperatures.
Finally the Blue stripe represents cold working glass. When grinding, polishing or finishing glass, artist use different abrasives mixed with water to change the surface of the glass. We use water to limit the amount of dangerous glass dust and friction that is created in glass grinding. Spring Street Studios has a well equipt cold working studio including saws, sanders, drill presses and a sandblaster. If you ever take a stained glass class you will learn glass grinding on one of our many table top grinders before foiling and soldering your piece.
